Cookies
According to the Electronic Communications Act, active since July 25 2003,
everybody who visits a website should be informed about:
- that the website uses cookies,
- what these cookies are used for, and
- how cookies can be avoided.
There are two types of cookies:
- Session cookies
- Persistent cookies
Session cookies are erased when the user closes the Web browser. The session
cookie is stored in temporary memory and is not retained after the browser is closed.
Session cookies do not collect information from the user’s computer. They typically
will store information in the form of a session identification that does not personally
identify the user.
Persistent cookies are stored on a user’s hard drive until it expires (persistent
cookies are set with expiration dates) or until the user deletes the cookie. Persistent
cookies are used to collect identifying information about the user, such as Web
surfing behaviour or user preferences.
Session cookies are used
to keep track of your activities when you move from page to page within the site
and that any information you have entered is remembered. The cookie is deleted when
you close your web browser, or after 30 minutes of inactivity on the web site. It
does not collect any personal information from the user’s computer.
If you do not wish to accept cookies, your web browser can be set so that you automatically
deny the use of cookies, or to inform you every time a website requests to be allowed
to use a cookie. See the web browser’s help pages for more information on how to
do this. Please observe: if you disable the use of cookies, functionality and performance
on this web site will be limited.
